The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated to give 1 -ethyl- lH-imidazole-2- carbaldehyde as light yellow oil (520 mg, yield 84%). 1H MR (400 MHz, CDC13) delta (ppm): 1.42- 1.46 (t, J= 7.2 Hz, 3H), 4.42-4.47 (q, 2H), 7.19 (s, IH), 7.29 (s, IH), 9.82 (s, IH). LC-MS (ESI) m/z: 125 (M+l)+.
