After concentrating the organic layer, the residue was purified by column chromatography to obtain ethyl 2-bromo-1-(2,5-dichlorobenzyl)-4-methyl-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate (1.72 g): 1H-NMR (CDCl3) delta: 7.34 (1H, d, J=8.8 Hz), 7.20 (1H, dd, J=8.8, 2.4 Hz), 6.40 (1H, d, J=2.4 Hz), 5.60 (2H, s), 4.25 (2H, q, J=7.2 Hz), 2.56 (3H, s), 1.27 (3H, t, J=7.1 Hz).
