This paper focuses on application of Raman spectroscopy in development of device for drug identification useful in prescription drug preparation process or consultation process with patients with pre-prescribed medicines. First, the authors developed a Raman spectra database of 210 common tablets, and then, 46 tablets were analyzed with Raman spectroscopy and collated with the database to obtain a quality index. Also, addnl. use of near-IR spectroscopy was investigated. The results showed that tablets can be identified non-destructively by measuring the Raman spectrum, and the accuracy was increased with the combinational use of near-IR spectra.
