Starting materials included 2-quinolinecarboxylic acid 1-oxide, 4-methoxy-2-quinolinecarboxylic acid 1-oxide, isoquinoline 2-oxide, 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid 1-oxide. Aryl halides included 3-bromopyridine, bromobenzene, iodobenzene, 2-bromopyrazine, 2-iodopyrazine, 2-iodofuran. The title compds thus formed included biaryls, such as 2,3′-bipyridine 1-oxide, 2-(2-furanyl)pyridine 1-oxide, 2-(4-chlorophenyl)quinoline 1-oxide and related substances.
