4-Iodo-2-methyl-1H-imidazole (5.44 g, 26.14 mmol) was addedto a suspension of sodium hydride (1.10 g, 27.4 mmol) and 18-crown-6-ether (0.691 g, 2.61 mmol) in NMP (85 mL) at 0 C. The mixture was stirred at room temperature under N2 atmosphere for 30 min. The solution of 42 (5.00 g, 27.4 mmol) in NMP(15 mL) was added dropwise to a solution of the mixture in at 0 C. The mixture was stirred at 110 C under N2 atmosphere overnight. After cooling, the mixture was poured into saturated aqueous NH4Cl solution at room temperature and extracted with EtOAc.
